At the beginning of June, MSC Cruise launched its new cruise ship «MSC Euribia» in Copenhagen. Representatives of UNICEF Switzerland and Liechtenstein and UNICEF in Denmark attended the event.
The UNICEF delegation joined MSC for their flagship cruise naming ceremony, welcoming the MSC Euribia to the port of Copenhagen. The vessel is MSC Cruises second ship powered by LNG fuel and featuring a range of innovative technologies, including wastewater treatment.
During the ceremony, UNICEF was represented by Goodwill Ambassador Cecilie Hother. The Danish TV-hostess and entrepreneur thanked the MSC Foundation for its long-standing partnership and talked about her motivation to support UNICEF. She emphasized the importance of education, a topic that is addressed through the programme «Plastic Waste to Classrooms» in Côte d’Ivoire. The program is supported by the MSC Foundation since 2019 and allowed UNICEF to build 112 eco-friendly modern classrooms so far.
MSC Group has been supporting UNICEF's work since 2009 through fundraising and awareness raising activities on board of cruise ships. Thanks to MSC, over 12 million euros have already been donated to UNICEF programs in various countries, supporting over 120,000 children. The MSC Foundation raises awareness of UNICEF's work and also supports shipping of UNICEF relief supplies through MSC's cargo department.
