War brings suffering, first and foremost to children. Children need peace – in Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and across the globe. UNICEF is doing everything it can to secure it. After a year of escalation in the Middle East, UNICEF continues to demand an immediate ceasefire, the release of the Israeli hostages and an end to the violence on all sides.

Sudan is facing a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions. 14 million children lack food, safe water, shelter and medical care. They urgently need humanitarian aid.

The armed conflict in Lebanon has escalated dramatically. Children suffer particularly. UNICEF is there on the ground and is providing the population with basic necessities.

After two years of war, nearly half of Ukraine’s population depends on humanitarian aid – including 2.9 million children. UNICEF is working in Ukraine and many neighboring countries and continuing its emergency response.

There have never been as many child refugees as there are today. The numbers are dramatic: of the 108.4 million forcibly displaced people (in 2022), 43.4 million are children. Almost two million of these were born as refugees.

On February 6, 2023 devastating earthquakes hit the border region between Turkey and Syria. More than 50,000 lives were lost. The massive destruction left the affected population in urgent need of humanitarian aid – including more than ten million children. UNICEF is still working in the earthquake region and providing long-term aid.

Yemen remains one of the largest humanitarian crises in the world. After nine long years of conflict, the country is deeply mired in an economic crisis. Its infrastructure has largely collapsed and the supply situation is worsening steadily. More than half of the population is dependent on humanitarian aid.

The war in Syria is entering its fourteenth year. Almost all Syrian children, both inside and outside the country, have had to cope with violence, loss and displacement.

Afghanistan is under threat from a humanitarian disaster: weakened by multiple crisessuch as natural catastrophes, conflicts, disease and hunger, people are battling for survival every day. More than half of the population need urgent help, including 15 million children.
